This is Shane and Lauren's new/old home. I went to Provo to help them get a start on the re-model and it proved to be a fun, back-breaking, work in progress. We did make quite a bit of headway and make a difference in their home.

Taking a break after working hours and hours each day.

Here is the history of the house in wallpaper! After stripping we had to mud the walls to even out the dips, holes, scratches etc. Then, of course we sanded and painted a primer coat. Old houses are a lot of work!

Lauren and Christy spent hours peeling, chipping, digging, coaxing wallpaper off the wall.

Sharalee helped get rid of ugly ceiling paint in the master bedroom and repainted the living room celing.

Kitchen cabinet needed to come down to open up the kitchen. Myron was a great help with demolition.

Kitchen cabinet no more! It created a great deal of space.

Book case must come down! Shane did a great job on patching the ceiling, and a discovery was made that a stove once had a home in the corner.

Guest room: before and after

This is the "Before". Mirrors were taken down, carpet and pad ripped up, tons of staples and nail had to be pulled out with pliers and hammer, and of course the wallpaper was stripped.
Posted by Picasa

After the carpet and carpet pad were taken up they had great hope.

It was amazing to see how beautiful the floors were after sanding.

Shane sanded the floors several times and then Lauren did the final, fine grit sanding.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST! I accompanied Dan to Scout Camp for a speaking assignment. All the hotels in Chester were full, so we had to go down the road a few miles. . .and a few years! This place was vintage 1960's from the pink and brown speckled linoleum to the 1964 Red Riviera out in front. The car did have current tags, and the hotel was clean, and it gave us something to talk about!

Just note that some units have kitchens and the units are all electric! I suppose they used to have wood burning stoves!

I went to Houston to see our good friends the Duttons. He passed his 70th day since his stem cell transplant while I was there and graduated from the infusion unit. It was great to see them. It won't be long until they are home. They have really been blessed.

Houston Sunset. Craig knew exactly what time the sun was to set each night. It was a ritual to go up on the roof of their apartment complex and watch the sun go down. Beautiful!

All the beach houses were built on stilts, just in case of big waves or huricanes. They were fun and colorful.

There were some very interesting homes and very grand ones from Victorian to Antebellem.

Posted by Picasa

There were so many examples of iron work that fascinated me. I loved going through the old neighborhoods. . .and the new!

Posted by Picasa

I loved the fabulous detail on the mansions.

The Duttons showed off Houston to me.

Posted by Picasa

It was fun to laugh, chat, eat and just be reassured that the Duttons were o.k.

The Golden Age of Gustavian Style-18th Century Sweden

Learning about new people and places certainly tops the list in my book. I have been ever so enlightened and yes, my life will never be the same as my eyes and heart have been opened to new vistas. Sweden's treasures were a delight.
